Menoth Vassal

I just downloaded a droid blogger app and I don't know if I can post any pics yet. Yesterday I started a vassal to change the pace from the Deliverers. Looks good so far.

Priming With Grey

The weather was above 20 degrees today so I decided I would prime a few more units so that I'd have something primed for when the weather drops again. I primed the new Vigilant warjack plastic kit, a Vassal of Menoth, High Paladin Dartan Vilmon, and a Reclaimer. The Vassal will probably get paint first since it gets used the most.

I prime primarily (get it?) with Krylon indoor/outdoor primer, and it goes on flat. Grey, white, and black all appear to go on smooth. The spray nozzle is akin to the P3 black primer at a fraction of the cost. P3 is a finer pigment but at ~$10 it's not worth it. I've also made the mistake of using Armory primer which cakes onto the mini. Armory gloss sealer ruined the three battlebox warjacks that I had painted when I started Warmachine back in the day. Krylon does none of that.

So far the grey looks good, it's a nice midtone for the darker Menoth look that I want to achieve since I'm bringing all my whites up from grey, although I wonder if bringing them up from Menoth White Basecoat, an off-white color would lend itself to my scheme. I had used it before but wasn't entirely pleased with it.

Deliverers Basecoated

Today I had some free time that turned into five hours of painting the most useless unit that Menoth has, but it's the only thing I had primed and it's about zero degrees outside so I have to go with what I've got. I want to have a really dark Menoth army, closer to what the wreck markers look like than to what the Crusader looks like. Hopefully when I figure out how to paint it I can go back to the Crusader and make it darker.

I have some Vallejo soot pigments but from what I read online you have to spray it with a matte sealant and it's cold outside so I won't be able to play with that until the spring. Until then I think I'm going to have to rely on Badab Black to make things dirty.

So far this is just a base coat plus a wash. I'm a terribly slow painter and I don't know when I'll be able to add highlights, I have an internship project I should be working on.

Using Washes to Paint

So I've had a unit of deliverers that I'll never use primed for almost two years. I primed them white back when I had planned on using a primarily white scheme, although that has since changed. I'm trying to paint black and brown primarily with washes to see what will happen, there's three coats of black and two coats of brown. The black isn't covering very well but the brown is starting to develop. I'm afraid I'll have to abandon the black.

Wreck Markers

Since the burden of this semester hasn't really hit me yet I decided to do some more painting. I'm out of things to paint that have been primed and aren't Necrons. Necrons are waiting for me to get an airbrush because there's no way in hell I'm going to dry brush ten destroyers. Tangent aside, I was left with my light and heavy warjack wreck markers. I'm not sure if the bases will blend in well with the rest of my army since they're part of the sculpt but the color pallet is similar.

The whole model was washed twice in badab black, once in devlan mud, and another time in badab black so it turned out pretty dark. Considering it's supposed to be a wreck I'm ok with that.

On another note I need to make a light box but there's no room on my desk for one.

Wracks Mostly Done

A few days ago I finished the wracks for the most part, other than the lava on their bases, which I'll do last once the whole army is painted and caulking is a pain in the ass to deal with so I want to get it all out of the way at once.

Since Cygnar is the more likely enemy of Menoth I painted two of the robes blue and one red for the more distant Khador. Attaching the chains was the most tedious thing I've ever done and some of them look like a mess.

After seeing this photo I decided it needed more color so I tried to make it like the weights had fire in them.

Too many models, not enough time.

I've got a three day weekend and a little bit of free time so I decided to paint some guys that wouldn't be terribly hard to finish quickly. I've got to figure out how to make around the cuffs look raw and then give the metal some more washes but I'm happy with the rest of the skin.

Table pics found

Pics!

The AoBR force was painted for my local gaming club and the Warmachine stuff is what I'm currently working on. The Khador stuff is completely done, while the Menoth stuff isn't done being based, I'm going to put lava in the part that isn't rock to match my table. Everything else is just what I've done in between.

The lava table is mine too, I'll need to get some better pictures of that.

So I figured instead of nerding up my Facebook all the time with pictures of things I've painted in order to show them to people, I thought I'd just make a blog instead. Pictures to follow.
